People invest in home hot tubs for a lot of reasons. They’re the perfect way to relax and unwind after a stressful day, and some people use them to get relief from chronic pain or sore muscles. A soak in warm water can ease swelling muscles and help with joint pain. Maybe you’ve been thinking about getting a hot tub but aren’t sure you have enough space in your home or your budget. Here are a few reasons why a two-person hot tub might be the perfect solution.

Types of Two-Person Hot Tubs

If you’ve never considered a two-person hot tub, you’ll be surprised at how effective and versatile they are. Before exploring the reasons why you should become a hot tub owner, it helps to know a little more about your options so you can see how they would fit in your home.

Here are the most common types of hot tubs for two people:

Inflatable

An inflatable hot tub is the most affordable and convenient option, which is why they’re steadily growing in popularity. If you’re not quite ready to commit to something more expensive or that feels very permanent, this is the best choice for a compact hot tub option.

Inflatable hot tubs usually come with everything you need, making it easy to get it up and running. All you need is a flat, stable place with a nearby hot water supply to set it up. Inflatable hot tubs have a very simple design, and most do not have built-in seats; instead, you sit directly on the cushioned floor. They have a handful of jets that are powered by either air or water. A water jet spa experience is more effective but tends to be more expensive.

One of the best things about an inflatable two-person portable hot tub spa is it’s easy to store. If you decide you want to put it away during the winter months, you can do so quite easily. It’s the easiest kind to pump up, and pack up and take with you if you move to a new home.

If you’re up for it, you can ever take it to a friend’s house or on vacation with you, as long as you know there is a place where you can safely set it up. There is a wide range of inflatable small hot tub models available, and if you pick one with UV protected material and strong construction, they can last for between five and 10 years.

Plug n Play

Another portable two-person hot tub design to consider is a plug n play model. This style is much more reliable than an inflatable hot tub but considerably more affordable than regular hot tubs.

Plug n play hot tubs have a hard shell interior with molded seats, so they’re a little more comfortable than an inflatable tub. They’re also more durable and can last for twenty years or more with proper care and maintenance.

Small two person plug n play tubs usually have between eight and 10 jets and more water capacity than inflatable options. Their heating system is also more efficient at heating the water and maintaining water temperature, so they are more economical to operate.

Rotomolded

Rotomolded tubs are extremely durable. They’re made from high-density polyethylene powder that is placed in a mold, heated, rotated, and left to cool. The result is a seamless, molded hot tub that’s affordable and built to last.

Two-person models are pretty affordable, and most can be plugged into a standard electrical outlet. They typically have between 10 and 30 jets that are much more effective than the previously discussed models, though they don’t maintain their temperature quite as well. Although they aren’t as attractive as some of the other styles, these hot tubs can be expected to last for a long time.

Traditional Hot Tub

They might be a little hard to find, but there are some two-person traditional hot tubs out there that are just as effective and beautiful as those for six or ten people. This style is not as compact as the other options and slightly more expensive, but it is an essential hot tub experience. They’re available in a variety of shapes and are generally agreed to be the best-looking style.

Traditional hot tubs have the most powerful jets and are excellent at retaining heat. Even though it may be more expensive, it provides a great hydrotherapy experience. If budget is your main concern, though, they may not be your first choice.

Why Choose a Two Person Hot Tub?

Now that you know a little more about the types of two-person hot tubs available, let’s take a look at the top five reasons why you should consider one for your home.

1. They’re a manageable size.

If you’re unsure about getting a hot tub because you don’t think you have enough space, a two-person hot tub is a great compromise. You get all the benefits of a hot tub in a smaller package, and depending on what type of hot tub you buy, you may be able to pack it up and put it away when you’re done.

Inflatable hot tubs are the most convenient if you have a real concern about space. They can be set up anywhere there’s access to a power line, and because they’re not permanent, you don’t have to worry about committing to something long term.

That said, most types of two-person hot tubs are pretty easy to accommodate. For example, this two-person plug n play hot tub measures 72 by 72 by 36 inches, which has a much smaller footprint than a large six-person tub. On the other hand, this inflatable option is 75 x 47 x 26 inches, which is even smaller. There are a lot of options out there, you’re sure to find one that will work in your space.

2. They’re portable.

Some two-person hot tubs are extremely portable. Inflatable options can easily be packed up and stored, moved from one spot to another, and taken with you if you move to a new house.

Portable hot tubs may be the easiest to move, but the truth is that any two-person hot tub is going to be much more portable than their larger and much heavier counterparts. Plug n play hot tubs are a little heavier but can be safely moved with an extra set of hands, and rotomolded designs are so durable, you don’t have to worry as much about causing damage if you’re loading one into a moving van.

A traditional hot tub for two people might be a little more difficult to move than some of these other options, but they’re still infinitely easier to deal with than a full-sized hot tub. If you’re resistant to investing in one because you don’t want to be stuck worrying about it when you move, these smaller options are a much safer investment.

3. They’re less expensive.

This might seem a little obvious, but some people may not realize just how much money they can save by getting a smaller hot tub. Large inflatable hot tubs are great, but they usually cost around $700 or $800. A high-quality two-person inflatable hot tub costs as little as $300.

If you’re willing to invest a little more, there are some gorgeous plug n play designs for around $4,500. This is much more expensive than an inflatable option, but when compared to a larger hot tub that sits six or seven people, it’s about half the price. It’s possible to get a nice-looking, high-quality hot tub for two without spending an exorbitant amount of money.

4. They’re easy to install.

Most of these smaller hot tubs can be set up anywhere there is an electrical hookup in reach. You don’t have to worry about plumbing hookups and having different power lines installed. For the most part, these small two-person hot tubs run on a standard 120V line and filled with a standard garden hose.

Note that even though these hot tubs are much smaller and more convenient, they are still extremely heavy when filled with water. This is one of the most important things to consider about any hot tub. The flooring, decking, or ground underneath the tub should be effectively reinforced.

5. They’re just the right size.

If you live alone or with a spouse, partner, or roommate, a two-person hot tub is a perfect size for you. Large hot tubs that can seat a lot of people may be nice when you have a party, but between the $10,000 or more you’ll pay for the hot tub itself along with contractor fees to make sure you have a safe setup, you have to ask yourself if it’s worth having a huge hot tub when it’s only going to be you and one other person using it the majority of the time.

When you invest in a two-person hot tub, it’s just the right size for you and your special someone or best friend. You get all to experience all the relaxation that comes with having a hot tub without paying for multiple seats that are going to sit empty most of the time.
